London to Nottingham: Statistics show the highest number of Londoners re-locating to our city in last 5 years

Recent statistics show that for the first time in 5 years, Nottingham is taking on more people from London, after figures from the Office of National Statistics showed that 5,790 people moved to our thriving city from the big smoke!

This is great news for Nottingham but hardly surprising, we have a great quality of life offer with the average rental price for a 1 bed city centre apartment at £571pcm, a rapidly growing food and drink scene and the ability to access 80% of the UK within a 4 hour drive.

Whilst London is a bustling city, we are seeing an increase in people leaving to move up to Nottinghamshire to take advantage of our large labour pools with 500,500 working age people, our world class universities with over 60,000 students and a £5.25m direct investment into SMEs.

Brendan Moffett, chief executive of Invest in Nottingham, said: “These statistics confirm the shift away from London as employees increasingly look for a better quality of life.”

“Nottingham offers affordable house prices, a cost of living lower than any other core city outside of London and the opportunity to make a salary go further.

“The £1billion investment into infrastructure, as well as the ongoing redevelopment of the southern gateway, the development of the Midlands Rail Hub and implementation of the HS2 hub sees Nottingham on the cusp of a new era.”

“With existing excellent transport links, fast trains to London and a variety of thriving industries, it is easy to see why our entrepreneurial city is an attractive proposition.”
