Kaplan Skills and Employment giving school leavers a chance to develop skills

Introduction

In August 2014, Kaplan Nottingham will launch the Kaplan Financial Internship Programme in partnership with their Kaplan Skills and Employment division to give school leavers a chance to develop suitable skills to assist them in finding a position as a Modern Apprentice in Accountancy or an entry level job in an accountancy environment.

The Programme

The programme commences in August 2014 with the attendees spending 2-3 weeks with us at Kaplan Financial Nottingham.

During this time, we will start to deliver two qualifications, the Work Skills Level 1, and the AAT Level 1 Access award.
On day 1 of their 4th week (w/c 8th September), the attendees will commence a work placement with an employer. This work placement will last for six weeks with the attendee present in the workplace for four days per week, returning to Kaplan once weekly where required to continue their formal studies. The work placement must provide a minimum of 100 hours of work experience.

Employer’s Responsibility

There is a Partnership Agreement which sets out both our and your responsibilities.
There will be a requirement for employers to undergo a Health and Safety assessment to declare that you have suitable policies and procedures in place.

Generally, it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the young person is appropriately supervised and develops basic workplace skills such as turning up on time, keeping a tidy desk, managing a ‘to do’ list etc. however Kaplan Skills and Employment will provide a conducive plan in line with both learner and employers requirements to support where necessary.

At the end of the placement, we require the employers to offer an exit interview with the learner. Where possible, the young person should receive a real job interview where a post or Apprenticeship has become available. We will facilitate an on-going feedback process during the placement, with visits once fortnightly from our Student Coordinators.

We would prefer to work with employers who are likely to be in the position to offer the young person a Modern Apprenticeship or entry level position into the organisation upon commencement of a successful work placement.

However employers are not obliged to offer the young person a position upon completion of the placement.

The young person is not employed by your organisation during the placement. We are able to support the learner with the cost of travel they will incur between home and the workplace. We are also able to support with any additional costs related to placement for the learner in terms of equipment, smart clothing, uniform etc.

We do hope you are as excited about this programme as we are.
