Who We Are
Our Dementia Choir is a Nottingham-based initiative that celebrates the lives and potential of people living with dementia. Founded by Nottingham’s own, Vicky McClure, following the BBC documentary Our Dementia Choir, the choir challenges stigma by focusing on what people can do, rather than what they may lose.
At its heart, the choir is about living well with dementia. It provides a supportive and uplifting environment where members and their carers come together to sing, socialise, and build meaningful connections. Through regular rehearsals and performances, participants gain confidence, improve emotional wellbeing, and develop a strong sense of belonging.
The choir shows how creativity, particularly music, can unlock memories, spark joy, and support communication. Members are empowered to express themselves, stay active, and remain engaged in their communities in positive and fulfilling ways.
What new do
Our Dementia Choir has performed at national events and on television, helping to shift public understanding of dementia. Highlights include recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios and appearances that showcase the abilities, resilience, and joy of its members.
Through every rehearsal and performance, the choir promotes a powerful message: with the right support, people living with dementia can lead active, connected, and meaningful lives.
