Creative Nottingham and links to China – a blog by Jason Feehily

The Nottingham Screen Partnership (NSP) is a consortium of organisations in the screen industry from across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, set up to foster collaborations with China and Hollywood on industry-changing research, talent upskilling and addressing pressing issues facing the global screen industry.

Key partners include: The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, The Creative Quarter, Nottingham City Council, Confetti Media Group, Spool Films, Invest in Nottingham, Skeleton Productions and Creative England.

The ambition of the partnership is to develop Nottingham into an international hub for the development of ideas, talent, research and disruptive technologies.

The 3-day Expo (Oct 20-22) included the Nottingham Students Microfilm Competition; ‘Disruptive Creativity Across Borders’ designed to foster new ways of meeting presented challenges and identified future opportunities, in particular the relationship between the film industries of the UK and the USA, alongside the emerging market of China.

“What the NSP is developing in Nottingham is unique in the world and will be a magnet to attract creative talent, production, and industry changing research. It will become a template for others to follow. The partnership includes Nottingham’s two major universities, the Creative Quarter, Nottingham City Council and production companies, such as Spool. It builds on its unparalleled capacity to provide a network of partners and collaborators from the UK, one of the fastest growing countries in film and television production, Hollywood, which remains the world’s centre of creativity and talent in this industry, and China, arguably the most exciting film and television market in the world right now” – Curtis Clark, Chairman of Technology Committee, American Society of Cinematography.
