Awards and growth on the menu at Potter Clarkson

On Friday 10 July we held our fourth Nottingham Means Business lunch of the year at Potter Clarkson in the heart of Nottingham, where awards and growth were firmly on the menu.

With over 70 members and guests in attendance we were formally welcomed by Andrew Argyle, Practice Director at Potter Clarkson to their very impressive offices.

Awards are a key strategy to raise Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s profile outside of the city and county and one of the most prestigious awards to win is The Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

NMB - Potter Clarkson (1)L-R: Andrew Argyle (Potter Clarkson), Simon Hall (Nottingham City Council), Mark Goldby (SMS Electronics), Steve Martin (Chinook Sciences) and Simon Gray (NMB).

Mark Goldby (SMS Electronics) and Steve Martin (Chinook Sciences) are both winners of the Queen’s Award and they shared their experiences on the application process and the many benefits (both nationally and internationally) of winning such an award. The message was very clear – Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have some fantastic businesses and there are huge opportunities to raise the profile of these organisations and the region as a whole by entering awards.

Next up, Simon Hall, Growth Hub Manager at Nottingham City Council shared details of the support offered to businesses to help facilitate growth. Drawing a parallel with Tiger Woods and Serena Williams, Simon explained the best in the world have coaches and someone in their corner, and that he and his team are here and ready to support local businesses.

The lunch set a number of records and is evidence of the ever growing reach and influence of Nottingham Means Business. We were pleased to formally welcome 11 new members in addition to our ten Creative Class honorary members (making 21 new additions to NMB in total). In addition, we welcomed ten guests representing eight organisations who we hope will also become members of NMB very soon.
