Official opening of the CWE Worksop site

CWE, a fast-growing company which specialises in providing engineering solutions has officially opened its brand new manufacturing facility in Shireoaks, near Worksop.  The new 10,000 sq ft premises, based at the Shireoaks Triangle Business Park, will enable CWE to expand the work that it is doing in safety critical engineering in the energy, rail and steel companies and their industry service providers.

The company, which began life making coal feedings in power stations, is now one of the country’s leading providers in design, machining and fabrication capabilities for some of the UK’s biggest industrial companies.  The Shireoaks plant consists of a CNC machine shop and a coupler refurbishment shop. 18 jobs have already been created there and the company is now planning a second shift which will create the same number again.

Speaking about the new Shireoaks facility, Chris Brown, Managing Director of CWE, said: “The opening of our new facility in Shireoaks has been a long journey, but it has been worth it. We now have a manufacturing facility which will help CWE to reach the next level of growth.

“Across our businesses we provide solutions to the rail, steel and energy industries. We have identified an opportunity for significant growth in the rail aftermarket, hence our push to move a substantial part of this work to a larger location in Worksop.”

CWE’s new facility was officially opened by Councillor Sybil Fielding, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council. Speaking at the ceremony, she said: “I am honoured to be opening CWE’s new facility today. As a local councillor for Shireoaks, I also know how important it is to create new and skilled jobs in the area, and CWE is helping us to achieve that. I know that the directors have great plans for the business and I’m sure that over the coming years, the company will continue to grow, bringing new jobs and wealth to north Nottinghamshire.”

Over 20 members of the Nottinghamshire Manufacturing Network also attended the CWE launch event. The network, which is run by the University of Nottingham and Nottingham City Council aims to promote and share best practice amongst manufacturers in Nottinghamshire. The members were given an in-depth tour of the CWE premises as part of their visit where they were able to learn about CWE’s manufacturing processes.

Steve Upcraft from The University of Nottingham, who helped to establish the Nottingham Manufacturing Network, said: “Manufacturing is vitally important to Nottinghamshire’s economy, so it is terrific to see new investment going into expanding manufacturing companies like CWE.

“We established the Nottingham Manufacturing Network because it’s widely acknowledged that business leaders learn directly from their peers. The Network is now self-supporting and provides an environment where manufacturing specialists can share best practice and discuss their concerns and challenges, to help make them all more innovative and competitive in their markets.”

£1.5m of funding for CWE’s new manufacturing facility came from the Foresight Nottingham Fund, a £40 million fund looking to invest in high growth businesses with a focus on Nottinghamshire and Nottingham. Nottingham City Council’s Invest in Nottingham team helped CWE and Foresight to identify suitable premises.
