Stock Exchange and PMO update at November’s NMB lunch

A big thank you to everyone who attended our November lunch held at Nottingham Racecourse, which was kindly sponsored by Arup.

Following an introduction from Neil Harrison from Arup, Mark Fahy from the London Stock Exchange and Paul Southby from Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire presented to a packed audience of over 100 members and guests.

Mark explained how the London Stock Exchange works to support businesses through its ELITE UK programme and focused specifically on the East Midlands, examining the trends in the IPO market and setting out benefits and challenges for companies that may consider an IPO as part of their future growth strategy.

Paul provided an update on the activity of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and how this new organisation will work to promote the city and county to inward investors, business and leisure visitors and how NMB will play a key role in business engagement.

Also, focusing on one of the three pillars that NMB is built upon, we welcomed four students from Nottingham Trent University. Mentored by Simon Gray from NMB they have been taking part in a £10 Challenge run by the Institute of Directors to raise money for The John van Geest Cancer Research Centre.

NMB’s ‘Inspire’ mission aims to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs to start businesses here and to showcase the range of opportunities that exist in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire across a diverse range of industry sectors. Aptly named ‘Team Inspire’ they worked on a number of initiatives to raise money for this worthy cause and all gained new skills and experience as part of the process.
