Growth on the agenda at our July lunch

A big thank you to everyone who attended last week’s Nottingham Means Business lunch, which was kindly sponsored and hosted by Eversheds.

Once again there was a great turnout and the opportunity to network with other business professionals and hear the latest updates on things happening across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

The lunch coincided with news of the sad loss of Imogen Skirving, owner of Langar Hall and a huge Nottinghamshire character. She will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

Group
L-R: Mark Fletcher (Eversheds), Simon Gray (NMB), Simon Hall (Growth Hub) and David Wallace (Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire).

After an opportunity to network and a  fantastic lunch, Mark Fletcher, office managing partner at Eversheds took to the floor to explain a bit more about the work of Eversheds and the firm’s commitment to Nottingham.

Mark Fletcher
Next Simon Hall from Nottingham City Council’s Growth Hub explained some of the work he and his team do to support the growth of local businesses by providing access to resources, professional advice and signposting to funding. He used examples from sport to emphasise the importance of business mentoring to drive growth, innovation and to identify opportunities.

Simon’s presentation was timely ahead of Thursday’s Creative Class event where we’ll once again unveil ten Nottinghamshire businesses that we believe have huge potential for growth.

David Wallace
Our final speaker was David Wallace, interim chief executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which NMB was fully integrated into from 1 April. David explained some of the work that’s been going on behind the scenes to bring together the activities of NMB, Experience Nottinghamshire and Invest in Nottingham.

Hot off the press, he also announced a special event taking place in October, where Nottingham will be taking over Parliament at an event being organised by the University of Nottingham. He also hinted at a number of inward investment successes that could be just around the corner and updated members and guests on the recruitment of a permanent CEO and new brand proposition to capture the true essence of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
