The St. James Hotel, in Nottingham’s historic castle quarter, was officially opened on July 23rd. Formerly the Rutland Square hotel, the property purchased a year ago, has been completely refurbished and re-positioned to become one of Nottinghamshire’s finest hotels.
The public areas have been totally transformed into grand, yet contemporary spaces, with dazzling chandeliers, restored pink marble floors, and sumptuous furnishings. The hotel’s lounge and bar, ‘No6’, is a warm and inviting space with an exciting cocktail list, regular events and a library wall of over four hundred books.
The hotel is unique in Nottingham for its art collection, which is focused on work from local young artists. The hotel has its own gallery, which will have regular events showcasing the best of breakthrough talent.
The hotel has been designed to be a ‘value boutique’ which offers a contemporary environment at room rates which appeal to all sections of the market. The eighty-seven guest rooms have been designed around the needs of the guests. The penthouse, which is already the choice of celebrities, is one of the finest suites in the city. The 650 square foot room features burr walnut floors, antique furniture, a baby grand piano and even a television over the four-person hot tub.
The interior designer, Harjeet Johal, comments: ‘The brief was to create a truly unique hotel which would stand apart from the local competitors as a property of character, style, service and value. I am confident that this has been achieved. I wanted to reintroduce the wonder of travelling and make the hotel a place of both delight and sanctuary. I am very proud that most of the sourcing has been from within a thirty mile radius of the hotel. It is a real showcase of local craftsmanship and produce.’
The hotel also has several refurbished event spaces. The largest of which can cater for two hundred guests. These rooms have stunning views over Nottingham Castle and are the ideal venue for weddings, product launches or conferences.
