Recently Nottingham Partners and Invest in Nottingham were lucky enough to attend one of Our Dementia Choir’s rehearsal sessions. It was a wonderfully uplifting couple of hours with choir members, carers and volunteers bringing not just their voices, but masses of energy, proving that music is clearly a very special ingredient in the lives of people affected by dementia.
Dementia is one of the biggest health challenges of our time in the UK, and every 3 minutes someone develops the progressive condition which affects memory, thinking and behaviour. Our Dementia Choir was formed in 2018 by Vicky McClure in her home city of Nottingham, as she set about understanding the impact of music on those living with dementia. The choir originally came together as part of a documentary programme, but has continued to meet and perform.
The operation and profile of Our Dementia Choir is remarkable, and it relies upon donations to pay for rehearsals, transport, refreshments and printing music. All funds will be put to good use, so if you or your organisation is able to support this incredible cause please follow this link.
